The X factor is back

The X Factor is back: our Saturday evenings are sorted until 2014!

Yesterday evening marked the start of a new X Factor season. It is already the 10th edition of the singing tv reality show and it sounds more than promising.

First things first, Sharon Osborne is back! From the viewers’ reactions, she has been missed and her strong yet honest judgements are a delight that they are all eager to see. She also has an amazing teasing and loving relationship with Louis Walsh, another judge, well known for his temper and strong opinions. This duo reunited is a promise; a promise that we will witness fights, agreements and some intense display of affection and complicity.

The other two judges are Nicole Sherzinger and Gary Barlow: one is sweet and supportive, despite the use and abuse of the word “balls”, while the other one is serious, pretty much always disagreeing with his fellow companions and quite stiff in general.

This year also brings back the closed audition rooms: a candidate, four judges and cameras filming every angle of the scene. It is more intimate, probably more human yet a lot more stressful for candidates. It is a big challenge that most are dreading to take.

One of the highlights of last night is probably Hannah Barrett. Aged 17, she is living in Croydon, South London. She confessed that she wanted to impress Sharon the most because she has been on the show for years and, therefore, has a strong experience. Finally, she moved Nicole to tears by singing Emeli Sande’s “Read all about it”. Hannah has a great voice, a good backup story but needs to work on her stress: she was so nervous that she was almost in tears!
Anyway, keep an eye on Hannah: she is one of this year’s gems!

With Niall Horan from One Direction commenting on Twitter: “Xfactor was sick tonight! Some great talent on it tonight” and knowing that this guy knows perfectly what he is talking about, it us safe to say we are in for a treat with this 2013’s X Factor!
