  1. Martha says:

about the work that goes into the creation of a poitrart. At the moment that the photo is taken, Stein says there is “tension,” due to the photographer’s “attempt to unsettle the subject with words or actions, the subject’s desire to control the situation, a mutual trust that produces a raw and honest exchange… [She] believe[s] there is no recipe, no replicable means to these moments.” The idea that a photo is captured instantaneously and is unable to be replicated is very accurate and true to the process. Also the relationship between the photographer and their subject is one that is very meaningful and personal. There is an unspoken “mutual trust” between them; the subject expects the photographer to capture and portray them in an honest and accurate light, and the photographer expects the subject to dedicate their time and give them a meaningful shot. When this trust is realized and the photo is created in accordance with this, poitrarts are produced that are both interesting to look at and thought-provoking.
