Dolly Parton hits the road with new musical

With an estimated 100 million album sales the song writer, film and television star and worldwide icon, Dolly Parton is one of greatest selling music artists of all time and this week your very own Red Carpet Biz team headed along to the chic Theatre Royal Nottingham to watch her latest music conquest, 9 to 5 The Musical, based on the film starring Dolly Parton and with music and lyrics written by the lady herself.

‘9 to 5’ tells the story of three working girls from very different backgrounds, they need a job but they don’t need the hassles that come from their chauvinistic, sexist boss Franklyn J Hart.

The show opened with none other than 9-5 itself with a minimal cast compared to some other shows we have seen, however the three leading ladies are all exceptional, each one stands out on in their own right for playing believable characters who couldn’t differ more from the other

The entire audience were clapping along from the first notes of 9-5 and whooped when Dolly appeared (on film) as the narrator to the story.

Dolly Parton look-a-like (and sound-alike) Amy Lennox is fabulous as blonde bombshell Doralee Rhodes. Jackie Clune is just as impressive as the power-dressing Violet Newstead, who begins to realise her personal and professional ambitions and Natalie Casey’s Judy was simply pitch-perfect.

With fantastic music, choreography and stand-out performances, if you are a Dolly Parton fan or actually simply a fan of musicals in general, 9 to 5 will entertain you “round-the-clock”
